Why should I calibrate?

All instruments lose accuracy over time due to normal usage and the environmental conditions to which they are exposed.

How often should I calibrate?

For most applications, the recommended calibration interval is every twelve months.

N150 1-Point NIST Traceable Re-Calibration $156.00 Add
N350 3-Point NIST Traceable Re-Calibration $209.00 Add
N450 3-Point Ultima NIST A2LA Accredited Re-Calibration $315.00 Add

What is NIST Calibration

NIST stands for the National Institute for Standards and Technology. This organization is responsible for maintaining the master for different measurements, such as the standard "foot", standard, "second", or standard "pound". NIST also maintains the standard for temperature, humidity and pressure.

NIST Traceable means that the measuring standard can be traced directly back to the master standard maintained by the NIST organization.

NIST-Traceable does not tell you the measurement accuracy of a metrologty service in any detail. Only metrology services that can document their ISO 17025 standard provided data on their best measurement uncertainty.

Why does the external channel show a -414F(-247.78C) reading on the graph? (SP175 only)

Untitled Document
  • This is normal when the probe is not connected at the time a sample is taken.

Why won't the logger communicate?

Verify that you have the correct version of Dickson software installed on your PC. Version 10 or higher is required.

Verify that the correct port is selected: From the main Dicksonware screen, click on Logger then Communication, a black dot will appear next to the selected port. You may need to select a different port.

You may need to relocate the download cable to another USB port and possibly try changing the port again in DicksonWare.

If communication has not been established with the previous steps, you may need to open the logger and remove the battery for a few seconds and then try all ports and cable combinations again (this will not cause the unit to lose any logged data, but you will have to clear the logger to restart the logging process, this is done using DicksonWare).

If possible, try another PC

Why is the unit flashing green or not at all?

There is an LED indicator located on the front lower right corner of the unit. This indicator will flash green every 10 seconds ONLY when the unit is sampling and operating properly. If the indicator is not flashing, please verify the following:

The logger memory may be full; download the data and clear the memory.

Sampling may not be activated. To start sampling clear the memory.

The battery may need replacing (Battery Level may be checked via Dicksonware using USB power), or is installed upside down. See battery Replacement.

Condensation may have formed on the unit. Place unit in a warm dry environment for 24 hrs.

Clear memory and try again. These loggers are designed for use in a non-condensing environment.
If the environment creates condensation, try placing the unit (temperature only models) in a small sealed plastic bag to protect it from condensation.

How do I know if an alarm condition has been detected?

If an alarm condition has been detected, the LED will blink green, then red while sampling. An alarm will persist until cleared using the Dicksonware Alarm Level Update or the memory CLEAR button.

How do I replace the battery?

Untitled Document
  • Open the case by removing the screw in the back.
  • Remove the battery from its holder by sliding the battery out, using a pencil or other small device. Replace the battery with a Lithium CR2450 or DL2450 type; +side up.
  • Close case with screw.

Why is the LED flashing red?

Untitled Document
  • The LED will flash red if the logger is set for a delayed start.

How do you change the display between F and C?

Within the software under "setup" and "display".

Why does the downloaded data show a future date?

The logger may not have been cleared prior to use. Please clear the logger before placing the unit in service.

Why is the display blank?

Untitled Document
  • The display will remain blank if Press to Start is selected in Setup, but logging has not yet begun. Hold down the start button on the front of the logger for 1 second to start logging.
