Why should I calibrate?

All instruments lose accuracy over time due to normal usage and the environmental conditions to which they are exposed.

How often should I calibrate?

For most applications, the recommended calibration interval is every twelve months.

What is NIST Calibration

NIST stands for the National Institute for Standards and Technology. This organization is responsible for maintaining the master for different measurements, such as the standard "foot", standard, "second", or standard "pound". NIST also maintains the standard for temperature, humidity and pressure.

NIST Traceable means that the measuring standard can be traced directly back to the master standard maintained by the NIST organization.

NIST-Traceable does not tell you the measurement accuracy of a metrologty service in any detail. Only metrology services that can document their ISO 17025 standard provided data on their best measurement uncertainty.

Why won't the logger communicate?

Make sure that USB is selected under File > Preferences > Communications.

Unplug USB cable and plug back in.

Remove power to the logger (this will not cause the unit to lose any logged data), unplug the USB cable, power the logger back on, then reconnect the USB cable.

If possible, try another PC, and/or another USB port.

Why isn't the display on?

  • The screen goes blank when in backup battery mode.

How long does the rechargeable battery backup last?

Approximately 12 hours, but a UPS can be used for better results.

Downloaded data does not match my display.

1) Please be sure you are using DicksonWare version 17.1 or higher.

2) When using DicksonWare to view saved data, you must first CLEAR the Touchscreen via DicksonWare before logging. Once cleared, the Touchscreen can be edited and logging can begin.

Relay and Unit Alarm Operation

When an alarm is triggered the display alarm indicator will flash, the audible alarm will sound and the relay for that channel will activate.

Display NOT Pressed: After 30 seconds, the audible alarm will stop, display alarm indicator will continue to flash, relays will remain active.

Display Pressed (any time): Audible alarm will stop, display alarm indicator will stop flashing, relays will be inactive.
If after 2 minutes or the next sample rate (whichever is longer) the alarm condition is still present, the audible and visual alarms and relays will activate.

If the unit is in alarm mode, and the menu is accessed, the audible and visual alarms will immediately activate when returned to the main screen. The Relays will not activate until the 2 mintues have passed or the next sample is recorded.

Unit alarming even though readings are not outside alarm high/low settings.

All remote probe models will issue an alarm if the probe has been disconnected or is loose. Check the probe to ensure it is plugged in securely.

Unit will not start logging.

Make sure the unit is not attached to the USB cable. Powering on the unit while attached to the USB can cause the unit to fail on startup. Remove the USB cable and turn the unti off then on.

Logger is not recognized by DicksonWare.

If the Touchscreen logger is locked up or has failed to communicate with DicksonWare before, check the followng:

1) Make sure DicksonWare v17.1 or higher is installed.

2) With the logger on, press the current button to view current readings. If no readings are displayed, the unit is locked. Perform the following steps:

a) Connect the AC adapter to the Logger then plug into a standard electrical outlet. Slide the power switch up to the OFF position.
b) Connect the logger to the PC via USB
e) Open DicksonWare. DicksonWare should recognize the logger.
f) Either download data and clear or clear the logger.
g) Remove logger from USB and slide the power switch to the "ON" position.
h) Logge should resume normal operation and when connected to DicksonWare the logger should be recognized.

3) If the unit displays current readings, Windows may not want to recognize the unit since it failed once before. Perform the following steps:

a) Connect the logger via USB to the PC.
b) Open Device Manager via Control Panel. Open Human Interface Devices and find the logger.
c) Delete the logger device.
d) Immediately unplug the logger.
e) Plug the logger back in and open DicksonWare. The logger should be recognized. If not contact technical support.

Logger lost AC power. When AC power was restored, save data is not displayed and the logger is plotting 0 deg.

The logger failed to refresh the graph properly when AC power was restored.

Unplug the AC power cord from the logger for 10 seconds. Plug AC power back in. All saved data should display and the unit should begin logging normally.

I lose saved logged data when I turn the logger off.

Up to 30 minutes of saved logged data can be lost when the unit is turned off.

Problems communicating with the Flash Card?

Flash cards not purchased through Dickson should be formatted. If formatted after experiencing issues the unit will have to come back to be reset.

Formatting instructions:
1. Insert flash card into card reader
2. Go to My Computer and right click on the drive letter that corresponds with the card
3. A menu will appear. Choose the format option
4. Another window will appear
5. Under the "File System" heading, drop down the menu and choose the "FAT32" option
6. Then click on the start at the bottom of the window

This will format the card in the correct manner for use with the unit.
