The Importance of Calibration

Why should I calibrate my Data Logger or Chart Recorder?

Even the most expensive timepiece needs to be adjusted from time to time. The environment, usage, and stresses all work to cause the accuracy of an instrument to drift. Some instrumentations or voltage meters, will not experience much degradation in accuracy even over a number of years, where as humidity instrumentation can change in a few weeks in harsh conditions.

Regular calibrations of your instrument maintain its accuracy throughout its life.

How often should I recalibrate my Data Logger or Chart Recorder?

Speaking to all the different applications that Dickson Data Loggers and Chart Recorders are used in, the answer is every six months. To determine what works best for you, start with six month intervals and order a calibration that provides a "before data" (N450 or N550) reading. If that "before data" reveals that our instrument has stayed acceptably close the stated accuracy of the instrument then you can begin to stretch the six month interval. Eventually you will find the time period that does have significant effect on the accuracy of your unit and that determines how often you should recalibrate your Data Logger or Chart Recorder for your specific application.
