Calibrate--How Often?

Know Your Application!

First ask -- "How long can we afford to have out-of-tolerance conditions and instruments unable to detect out-of-range conditions?" Regular calibrations will ensure that your data loggers and chart recorders remain accurate.

Step #1 -- First Calibration Checkup -- 6-months

For most applications, the recommended first-time interval for calibration is every six months. This first calibration should include before calibration data (N450 Compliance-Max or N550 Before & After).

Step #2 -- Stretch Calibration Interval if "Before" Data is Acceptable

If the data logger's or chart recorder's before calibration data documented that it remained operating acceptably close to the stated accuracy of the instrument you can stretch the next calibration to a longer interval such as seven months. Remember to include "before" calibration data (N450 Compliance-Max or N550 Before & After).

Step #3 -- Revert to Prior Calibration Schedule if "Before" Data is Unacceptable

If "before" calibration data reveals that the chart recorder or data logger has stayed acceptably close to the stated accuracy of the instrument then you can continue to stretch the six-month interval. Eventually you will find the time period that does have significant effect on the accuracy of your unit. When you reach that point, go back to the prior calibration interval. This calibration schedule should be adhered to for the life of your data logger or chart recorder when used in the same application.
